You Can Stop "Back Page" Human Trafficking Advertisements

In 2007, a landmark Human Trafficking trial was held in the Hartford, Connecticut Federal Court. In the testimony of that trial the Hartford Advocate, a local newspaper that is typical of alternative weeklies across America, was mentioned over 70 times. Why? Because Dennis Paris, the defendant in the trial, used the newspaper as his sole channel for advertising his victims in what he claimed was an "Escort" service. Read more about this case and the Hartford Advocate’s involvement in this Vanity Fair Magazine article.

Yet, even though the Department of Justice proved these ads were used to promote human trafficking, the Hartford Advocate continues to run these weekly "escort" advertisements in print, online, and even on their own Facebook Page. The Hartford Advocate, owned by The Hartford Courant, "the nation's oldest continually running newspaper," which is owned by the mammoth Tribune Company, makes money from this suffering every week. However, if this one newspaper takes up the courage to stop running these ads, then others will be highly motivated to do the right thing and end them as well. Here is what you can do to stop it . . .

Go to the Hartford Advocate Back-Page Facebook page and tell them to stop running these ads. On the same page, you will notice a posting from Tribune National Account Executive Mike Uchalid, saying, "You know you want to.” He is, of course, referring to spending time with human trafficking victims, as proven by the Department of Justice in the Dennis Paris trial. Tell Mr. Uchalid, that you "don't want to" and insist he removes these ads from the Hartford Advocate, from their Website and from Facebook.

Senator Calls Facebook's Security for Children "Completely Indefensible"

The amount of Child Pornography - a form of human trafficking - on Facebook is only getting worse. Despite claims by Facebook and others that they are taking steps to prevent illegal images of children from being posted by pedophiles on the site, thousands of felonious images and videos depicting child abuse of every kind are displayed on the site every day.

The problem with Facebook's security is so pronounced, that US Senator Jay Rockefeller told a Senate Hearing this week that the Company's efforts are "completely indefensible."

Only a small fraction of the criminals using Facebook to trade and view illicit images of children - thereby co-validating their violent activities - are ever caught by Law Enforcement. Here is a list of recent arrests involving men who have been charged and convicted of using Facebook for posting Child Pornography:
Facebook Child Porn Arrest One
Facebook Child Porn Arrest Two
Facebook Child Porn Arrest Three
Facebook Child Porn Arrest Four
Facebook Child Porn Arrest Five
Facebook Child Porn Arrest Six
Facebook Child Porn Arrest Seven
Facebook Child Porn Arrest Eight
Facebook Child Porn Arrest Nine
Facebook Child Porn Arrest Ten
Facebook Child Porn Arrest Eleven
Facebook Child Porn Arrest Twelve
Facebook Child Porn Arrest Thirteen
Facebook Child Porn Arrest Fourteen
Facebook Child Porn Arrest Fifteen

There are two things you can do right now to tell Facebook to end their complicity in these crimes:

#1 - Join over 17,000 people in the Facebook Cause Here.
#2 - Send a direct message to Federal Legislators and Facebook Executives - including Mark Zuckerberg - here.

Next to spending time with your family, this will be the most valuable five minutes of your day.
